No More Families without Shelter!! Come Call on the City Council to Fund More Family Shelter!
Monday October 27th
4pm Rally in front of City Hall (1437 Bannock St)
5pm Public Comment to City Council on Budget
Join us in calling on the City Council to fund shelter for houseless families!
Council members Parody, Lewis, Gonzales-Gutierz, and others are proposing a budget amendment to fund a new family shelter. Monday is the time for the public to come speak to the city council on what they want to see in our budget. Even if you do not speak, coming to show your support makes a difference! We will have t-shirts for all!
We especially invite all families to come! Whether your family is houseless right now, or has been, or is scared you might be soon, or you just want to support – come stand together to call for safe shelter for all children!
We will have kids activities in the hall during the City Council public comment period.
There are currently over 250 families on a waitlist for shelter. Let me repeat – WAITLIST for SHELTER. Not housing, just emergency shelter. That means all these families are stuck on the streets, in cars, bouncing through unstable places as they wait for months or given up on getting shelter. We CANNOT be a society that accepts it as ok for kids and babies to be living on our streets!@$ This should be a moral line. We need to prioritize the lives of kids suffering with no housing in our budget and invest in more family shelter. With 40% of the City General Fund going for Police and Jails, we absolutely can and MUST afford to invest in shelter for families.
Come Monday to demand no more kids be left without shelter!!!
